to promote improvements in and alternatives to the current mental health system,
to educate the public regarding the problems and needs of persons involved in the mental health system, and
to educate the public regarding the need for the enforcement or extension of civil and human rights for current and former recipients of mental health services.
On Our Own of Maryland sponsors various workshops, seminars, and conferences throughout the year. The annual conference gives participants a chance to network and learn more about cutting edge issues in the consumer/survivor movement across the country.
On Our Own of Maryland has also started Main Street Housing, Inc., a subsidiary housing development corporation, in order to develop decent, safe, and affordable housing around the state for mental health consumers.
On Our Own of Maryland is also engaged in several other activities, including our Anti-Stigma and Advocacy Training Projects. We also provide technical assistance, information and referral, mental health systems monitoring and evaluation, among other services.
